Blogger or WordPress : which one is better?

We know that two of the most popular platforms for blogging are Blogger and WordPress. WordPress is very popular and about 47 percent of websites are built on WordPress. Besides, Blogger is a free platform created by Google where only blog sites can be created. A common question for all those who want to start blogging is whether Blogger is better or WordPress is better. And if you are in a dilemma as to which one to start blogging with. Today I will share about both Blogger and WordPress from my experience.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a CMS or Content Management System that can be used to create different types of websites. Different websites including e-commerce, news, portfolio, banking, blog, and business can be easily created using WordPress. WordPress is basically free but essential plugins and themes are available in the premium version. There are various things to spend money on inside WordPress. And to create a website on WordPress you need to buy domain and hosting.

Blogger Vs Wordpress

What is a domain?

The domain is the name or address of your website. The domain is the name you use to find your site on the Internet. These domain names are not free. Domain names have to be registered for yourself by spending a certain amount of money every year. You can use it as long as you renew by spending money.

What is hosting?

Hosting is a fixed amount of hard disk space connected to the Internet. Here you have to upload your website's text, images, videos, themes, plugins, and all files. They can be viewed 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world by visiting your website domain. A certain amount of space needs to be purchased from a hosting server to keep your website up and running. And it has to be renewed every year. As long as you spend money, they will give you this benefit.

What is the Blogger?

Blogger is a Google's platform where people can create their own websites and upload files for free. There is no cost for this. Blogger usually offers subdomains for free. A subdomain is an extra domain after your preferred domain under which your preferred domain operates. For example, www.abcd.blogspot.com. Here (.blogspot) is an additional extension under which your abcd domain belongs. Blog sites are basically created in Blogger it can be done for free. No extra money to spend and no hassle of domain hosting, Google will do it for you for free.

Blogger or WordPress?

If you want to create a blog site then you have two options first. One is WordPress and another is a Blogger. WordPress costs money and blogger is absolutely free. So which one should you choose?

Although Blogger and WordPress have different advantages and disadvantages. let's compare them. Hopefully, you can reach a conclusion from here.

Pros and cons of blogger

What are the benefits of Blogger?

1. Blogger Free: Blogger is best for you if you want to create a blog site for free. You don't have to spend any money on this. Only if you have a Gmail account.

2. Free Themes Available in Blogger: Blogger has a lot of beautiful and interesting theme options, most of which are free. Premium themes are also available for bloggers and have to be purchased for money.

3. Custom Domain Benefits: If you don't want to use the Blogspot subdomain and want to give your site a professional look, you can just buy a custom domain and add it to your blogger site. This way it will not be known later that your site is built on Blogger.

4. Blogger will not be hacked and slow down: Since Blogger is a Google service, no one can hack it and your site will never go down due to excess traffic.

5. Blogger is very easy to manage: Blogger is almost uncomplicated. Everything is easy to understand and use. The theme has a set of customization options and all the necessary features that can be used to manage the blogger very easily.

6. Adsense Benefits: Blogger gets Adsense approval very easily. If your site falls within all the rules and regulations of Google and everything is in order, you will quickly get Adsense approval and can earn from the blog site.

What are the disadvantages of Blogger?

Blogger has many advantages but its disadvantages are endless. Below are some important points.

1. SEO problem: Since there is no option to do separate SEO in blogger, one has to write posts by doing SEO as much as possible by hand. Due to low SEO opportunities, it is difficult to rank in Google search results. There are no extra plugins to monitor site performance to accurately detect or solve any issues.

2. Theme Issues: Google currently loves schemas, but Blogger themes are not up-to-date and do not incorporate schemas into their code. So ranking in search results becomes complicated. Most of the themes are very slow and contain extra javascript causing site loading problems. If your site's performance decreases then it cannot be found in Google search results.

3. Less Customization: Blogger doesn't have a lot of options in terms of how you write articles, how to present them, and how to arrange different sections of your site. Apart from a few special features, there are no additional customization features.

4. Problems in Google Search Console: Google Search Console is a platform of Google where you can see how your site is ranking in Google and how it is doing, how many clicks, how many views you are getting, and whether there is any problem or not. It identifies various problems related to the site and asks you to solve them. Blogger has to face various issues related to themes. And Google takes the traffic down for that. In most cases, there are solutions but very complex and annoying. Some problems are not resolvable.

5. Difficulty in indexing: If you write and publish an article on Blogger, it is not easy for Google to see it. Google takes about 10-15 days to index it then your article comes up in search results. This problem can be easily solved in WordPress but there is no easy way in Blogger. There is a way to solve it using Google Indexing API but it is quite complicated.

Pros And Cons Of Wordpress

What are the benefits of WordPress?

If you spend money and make a website using WordPress, there will be some benefits. Below are a few examples...

1. Benefits of Extensive Customization: You can customize WordPress from A to Z. In WordPress, you can create different types of sites like e-commerce, shopping, portfolio, etc. apart from just a blog.  You can customize almost everything on your site in WordPress.

2. Plugin Benefits: WordPress has different plugins for every task. There are free and paid plugins available to solve almost all types of problems.

3. SEO Benefits: WordPress has separate plugins for SEO. Whether your article is ranking in Google or not, what is the problem, what to do? WordPress SEO plugins will help with all kinds of suggestions and necessary instructions and you can rank on Google's search results after fixing everything using them.

4. Good Site Performance: WordPress themes are very lightweight so site performance is very fast and your site will load quickly. If your site's performance is poor, you can improve it by using some plugins

5. Earning opportunities besides Adsense: There are many other ways to earn money on your WordPress site besides Adsense. WordPress can use third-party and custom add-ons.

What are the disadvantages of WordPress?

WordPress may have many advantages, but it is not true that it has no disadvantages. Here are some disadvantages of WordPress.

1. WordPress is relatively complex: Managing a site on WordPress is relatively easy but designing and creating a site is relatively complex and requires experience. You can easily create a site using any theme here. There are various small things which if not understood lead to many complications and trouble. It is very easy for those who have experience in these things but for those who don't, they will come into trouble and it will take a lot of time to gain experience.

2. Everything Costs Money: Everything in WordPress is free, but nothing good is free. No good theme or good plugin comes without money. Additional money is required to use various necessary features. Buying domain hosting alone doesn't end your expenses, you may incur more expenses later on as per your needs. If you want to build a site without cost, you may have to miss out on some features.

3. Cost of Domain Hosting: Although it costs less to buy domain hosting for the first time, you will have to pay 10 times more when you renew your hosting plan next year. If you start a site with 3 thousand rupees, next year you may have to spend up to 15 thousand rupees.

4. Excessive traffic problem on the site: If ever there is excessive traffic on your site then your site will go down. Those who have more regular traffic have to buy more special unlimited traffic hosting at a higher cost. Again WordPress sites can get hacked.

Blogging or YouTube: Which Is Better For Passive Income?

So Blogger is better or WordPress is better?

If you create any type of site other than blogging, you should go to WordPress with your eyes closed. However, if you create a site only for blogging, it is a matter of consideration. To be honest, whether you are using Blogger or WordPress, you will face various problems in managing a site. From Google search console to site speed and indexing and AdSense there will be various problems in both but the ways to solve these are a little easier in WordPress.

It can also be done in Blogger but in a slightly complicated way. Every now and then you may have to suffer for it. Bangladesh still has several established blog sites in the Bengali language that are built on Blogger and have AdSense enabled. You can also join them using Blogger. But if you have a target to be ahead of everyone in the competition and rank number one in Google, then WordPress will give you good results.

In 2024, Artificial Intelligence has changed the world of content writing. Today the competition is between man and machine. Decide which platform you should go for based on your goals and objectives. If you want to take up blogging as a serious career then you should start with WordPress. Learn a lot in between and move on.

And if blogging is your part-time job and you don't have any money to invest in the beginning then you can start with blogger. You will learn a lot, and understand and if you can identify the shortcomings then you can move to WordPress. I personally have experience with both platforms but my site is built on Blogger and I use a custom domain on it. I will continue to share more updated information on this in the future. Thank you.
